Pasamos una semana con una Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 SuperCrew 2024 equipada con el motor 3.5L EcoBoost, los paquetes Max Tow y FX4, para ver cómo se desempeña en la práctica. Desde remolcar un tráiler cerrado por caminos montañosos hasta transportar un pallet completo de adoquines y enfrentarnos a caminos de tierra llenos de surcos, aquí te contamos cómo se comportó.

Nuestra camioneta de prueba incorporó un motor V6 biturbo de 3.5L (400 hp, 500 lb-ft) acoplado a una transmisión automática de 10 velocidades, con un eje trasero de bloqueo electrónico de 3.55, llantas todoterreno de 18 pulgadas (265/70R18), placas de deslizamiento FX4 y un controlador de freno de remolque integrado. Tal como estaba configurada, tenía una capacidad de remolque convencional de 13,500 lb y una capacidad de carga útil de 2,050 lb. El peso bruto fue de 5,080 lb con el tanque lleno y sin pasajeros. Las rutas de prueba incluyeron 120 millas de conducción mixta en autopista y en la ciudad, un circuito de remolque de 75 millas con pendientes sostenidas del 6%, y un tramo off-road de 25 millas con arena, caminos de ripio y lechos de rocas suaves.

Las temperaturas ambientales oscilaron entre 61 y 84 °F, con vientos suaves. Registramos los datos a través de un registrador de datos GPS y monitoreamos las temperaturas del tren motriz a través de los medidores de la camioneta. Para el remolque, enganchamos un transportador de coches cerrado de 7,500 lb (peso de la lengua ~820 lb, 11%) utilizando el receptor de clase IV de fábrica. En modo Tow/Haul, la transmisión de 10 velocidades mantenía el motor entre 2,200 y 3,500 rpm en las pendientes; el e-locker permanecía abierto en el pavimento.

A 60 mph, el tren motriz se sentía relajado, necesitando aproximadamente la mitad del acelerador para mantener subidas del 6%. Los adelantamientos de 50 a 70 mph tomaron 7.3 segundos en terreno nivelado. La estabilidad era tranquilizadora—sin cabeceos ni deslizamientos con una distribución de peso adecuada—y el controlador de freno integrado se sentía lineal con una configuración de ganancia de 6.0. La temperatura de la transmisión alcanzó un pico de 208 °F y la del refrigerante de 206 °F.

La economía de combustible en el circuito de remolque promedió 9.8 mpg. La prueba de carga útil utilizó 1,620 lb de piedras de pavimentación más un conductor y herramientas, acercándonos a 200 lb del límite de carga. Con los resortes de fábrica y sin asistencia de aire, el hundimiento trasero se midió en 1.6 pulgadas en el arco de la rueda; la alineación de los faros se mantuvo aceptable. La aceleración a 60 mph se extendió a 8.9 segundos (vs. 6.0 en vacío), y la camioneta se detuvo en línea recta con un pedal firme. Registramos la mejor detención de 60 a 0 mph de 132 pies en vacío y 151 pies cargada. Los anclajes de la caja y el escalón hicieron que la gestión de la carga fuera sencilla, y el indicador de la caja con balanza demostró ser preciso dentro de 50 lb. Off-road, bajamos la presión a 26 psi y utilizamos el modo off-road de FX4 con Control de Descenso en Pendientes.

La distancia al suelo (9.4 pulgadas medida en el diferencial trasero) y el bloqueo electrónico trasero ayudaron a sortear surcos transversales sin complicaciones, aunque el alerón delantero rozó en un punto de ruptura agudo. Los amortiguadores manejaron mejor el ripio a 22-28 mph que a 15 mph, donde se notaba un pequeño ruido de vibración. En arena blanda, el par de bajo régimen de los turbos facilitó la modulación del acelerador; el Control de Sendero mantuvo una velocidad constante de 2 mph en una bajada rocosa. Los ángulos de aproximación y salida son el factor limitante si te aventuras más allá de senderos ligeros a moderados.

En general, el F-150 con motor EcoBoost de 3.5 demuestra ser muy equilibrado: confiado con un remolque de 7,500 lb, armado con una carga útil de 1,600 lb, y genuinamente capaz fuera de carretera para un modelo no especializado. Si remolcas cerca del límite con frecuencia, considera un resorte auxiliar trasero o bolsas de aire para controlar el hundimiento, y especifica los espejos de remolque. Para trabajos en senderos frecuentes, una versión Tremor de fábrica o un voladizo frontal ligeramente más corto ampliarán la capacidad. Tal como fue probado, es un caballo de batalla versátil y eficiente que equilibra potencia, estabilidad y usabilidad diaria.
